Context:
In our daily standup meeting, we were discussing how the training and assessment plan is progressing for team members. During the discussion, a colleague who is currently in charge of that activity responded with “手こずっています.”
Initially, I did not understand the meaning. Later, when I checked the meaning, I learned that our training and assessment status is not going in the expected direction for a few reasons.

In Japanese, 手こずっています (tekozutteimasu) is often used to describe situations where one is having a hard time dealing with something or someone. It conveys the idea that things are more complicated or troublesome than anticipated
